A few years back I created this dainty bookmark to lure in new hairpin lace crocheters. On October 17, I’m teaching a beginner’s HPL class at Marji’s Yarncrafts in Granby, CT (I’d love to see you there, locals!), so I updated the pattern to make it even easier to understand. Get your copy on Ravelry, or download it from the Patterns page.
HPL in Spring 2012 Interweave Crochet
March 15th, 2012 § Leave a Comment
The new issue of Interweave Crochet includes four hairpin lace patterns that show just how versatile my favorite technique can be. I’m also excited that my article “Hairpin Lace: from Fad to Fab” is in the issue. I spent some quality time with my collection of vintage crochet books and tracked the ebb and tide of HPL in the 20th century for the piece. Between you and me, I predict the 21st century is where it’s at for HPL!
We Begin

How better to begin than to look at a variety of looms used for crafting Hairpin Lace? From the Boye looms of pre-determined sizes to homemade adjustable looms to the classic Susan Bates adjustable loom, each has an elegant beauty in its simple practicality.
The blue Susan Bates loom is the one I learned on as a girl. The red one is a more recent acquisition. With lots of HPL designing going on, I often have projects going on multiple looms!
